Club Etiquette
Approaching other boats.
- Don’t pull up too close to someone fishing.
- Don’t pull up in their burley trail (if their anchor lets go you will collide)
- Don’t cut across their burley trail (it will scare any fish working their way up the trail)
- If pulling up along side try to come in from the front and not where they are fishing.
- When you have had enough leave the spot quietly and don’t ruin it for everyone else.
- If pulling up along side allow for the swing and the wind when the tide turns.
- Do not position your boat in some ones casting range (could be dangerous).
Radio.
- Make a clear call on the radio and wait for a reply.
- Allow a minute or 2 between calls, as the person may be busy.
- If you want to hold a conversation then change to a non-calling channel or use your mobile.
- The club channel 94 is for communicating and not idle chatter.
- The radio is not there for the kids to play with. Teach them how to use it properly and allow them to use it sensibly. If you want the kids to talk to each other then invest in a couple of cheap UHF sets and they can talk as much as they want.
- It’s against the law to swear or be offensive on the radio.
- When you use your call sign you are representing your club so don’t make an idiot of yourself.
- Don’t give out any personal details on the radio as anyone listening now knows your not at home and you have a boat and plenty of fishing gear.
Fish Reports.
- Only give genuine reports,
- If your on fish and don’t tell anyone then don’t expect anyone to return the favor.
- Remember it’s a social club.
- Giving out locations over the radio is not a good idea.
- Commercial fishos use this time to work out where the schools are and then come in and net the whole area. No, its not paranoia. It’s a fact. Also too many boats in the one area will spook the fish.
- Be very careful with GPS marks. One small number out of place and you have not only sent someone to the wrong spot but could potentially be liable if something had happened as a result. That small mistake on the GPS coordinate could be a reef / sandbar or even a car park.
Safety
- If taking part in a comp, makes sure you log in with Club Captain.
- The Club Captain should have a sheet of people who are logged on. This should be checked at the end of the day or when Cub Captain is leaving the water.
- Refer Club Safety Policy for further details.
Boat Ramp Etiquette
- Be patient and wait your turn
- Help others at the ramp as this saves time. (Especially people with kids or on their own) (Many times I have appreciated help at the ramp especially when fishing with kids)
- Make sure everything is ready to go before you line up for the ramp. (Do not remove safety chains until trailer and boat is in the water).
- If reversing down the ramp at night turn you lights down (other people get blinded by the light when trying to reverse beside you).
-
The Ramp is not the place to muck around and sort out your bait etc. Keep it moving quickly. However at the same time dont let anyone rush you because they are in a great hurry. Remember - you're the one paying for any damage that may result - not them.
